In-Home Support Services was established in 1987 to fulfill a need for personal and respite care for children and adults with developmental disabilities. In 1995, in an effort to meet greater community needs, In-Home Support Services was expanded to provide services to anyone requiring personal and respite home care, not just individuals with developmental disabilities.

In-Home Support Services is owned and operated by the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre of Calgary (DDRC). DDRC is a non-profit, charitable organization which was founded in 1952 by a small group of parents and community members. They were determined to provide the necessary supports to ensure that children and adults with developmental disabilities would live healthy, useful lives, and be fully included in the Calgary community in meaningful ways.
